Why Dry The Crawl Space?

Damp, humid crawl spaces are the source of many problems for your home, including mold, rot, and even structural damage to the floor joists and girder.

A moldy, musty crawl space will lead to an increase in allergenic mold spores and musty odors in the home, while also attracting pests.

Maintaining a dry crawl space can help to control this problem, maintaining a healthier and more valuable home.

More on Crawl Space Moisture

If you have a dehumidifier system installed and your crawl space is still damp, then your system is not accomplishing the job you purchased it for.

Too often, our experts at Basement Systems hear from homeowners that have installed multiple dehumidifiers in their space in an attempt to keep the space dry. In many cases, it seems like the only thing that seems to change are their energy bills!

In most cases, installing a dehumidifier will fail to dry your crawl space in the following two scenarios:

  1. Your dehumidifier is not powerful enough to dry the crawl space, or is not designed for the cooler environment.
  2. Your crawl space is vented, meaning that the dehumidifier is pitted against a neverending supply of outside air.

The Case Against Crawl Space Vents

Crawl space vents bring hot, humid air into your home during the summer months. As this air enters the crawl space, it cools and deposits the humidity in the form of condensation onto all surfaces. This humidity will encourage mold and rot.

In the winter, cold air is let into the crawl space, which cools your HVAC system and water heater, costing you much more on your utility bills.

Sealing your crawl space as well as dehumidifying it will provide the most effective long-term solution for creating a dry, healthy crawl space.

Crawl Space Dehumidifiers

The difference between choosing a powerful, energy efficient dehumidifier that's well-suited for a crawl space or installing a system that's not up to the challenge can be enormous.

A system that's not powerful enough to do the job may leave your crawl space humid, while creating significant spiking in your utility bills. An investment in a system that you can trust to do the job correctly can pay back for itself many times over in avoided energy costs and repairs.

a low-profile basement and crawl space dehumidifier system

Sanidry™ CX Dehumidifier

Our SaniDry™ CX Crawl Space Air System features a powerful, Energy efficient design that's made with the low-profile ceiling of the crawl space in mind.

At only 15" inches in height, this system can fit in any but the shortest crawl spaces, and is equipped with a powerful 300CFM blowing motor that keeps dry air circulating throughout the space.

We know that most homeowners do not want to enter their crawl space often, and we've designed our system with this in mind. The self-draining, 109-pint system has no collection trays to empty, and its automatic operation turns it on and off as needed to keep your space dry.

SaniDry™ CX Dehumidifier

Our classic, original system, the SaniDry™ CX Crawl Space Dehumidifier keeps your space dry to help control mold, mildew, and rot.

Like the SaniDry™ CX, this innovative system is energy efficient, self-draining, and is low profile to allow for installation in short-ceiling crawl spaces.

Equipped with a 240 CFM fan and the ability to remove 90 pints of water per day, while using a gravity-fed or condensation-pump-operated discharge line. An automatic on/off capability allows the system to turn itself on and off, removing humidity from the crawl space as needed to maintain the space.

SaniDry™ XP Dehumidifier

If your crawl space has an exceptionally low ceiling -- one that would not allow for the installation of a SaniDry™ CX or SaniDry™ CX, our upright SaniDry™ XP Dehumidifier System is the answer.

This system can be installed in a utility room or closet in the main area of your home, where ductwork can be installed into the crawl space. The powerful fan and blowing motor of the SaniDry™ XP will pull air up from the crawl space, dry it, and return it to the space.

Like our other systems, the SaniDry™ XP is self-draining, automatic, and energy efficient.
